The Humboldt-Institut

The Humboldt-Institut was founded in 1977 by Mr. Norbert Güthling, who is still at the helm of the institute today. While he studied at university, he sent German students abroad to England and France. Because he was unhappy with how the stays were planned and organized in the host countries, he decided to do it better himself and, with partners, founded the Humboldt-Institut.

Since then the aspiration of the Humboldt-Institut has always been to offer the best German courses and to guarantee fast and effective learning for all course participants. We have been pursuing this approach for more than 40 years and have had the privilege to welcome more than 60,000 students from over 160 countries to our schools. This makes the Humboldt-Institut one of the largest and most experienced providers of German as a foreign language.

From a single program center at Ratzenried Castle, which nowadays serves as the administrative headquarters, the Humboldt-Institut has grown to a network of 17 schools, of which four — Berlin City, Constance, Lindenberg and Bad Schussenried — are open year-round.

The Humboldt-Institut is named after Wilhelm von Humboldt, the Prussian reformer for education, a linguist and brother of the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt. Like Humboldt, we follow a holistic concept: course participants learn German, use the language daily in their interactions with each other, and are completely immersed in German life and culture.

Therefore, we offer our German courses almost always as packages which include everything: housing accommodations, full board and leisure program. This way our guests don’t have to worry about anything and can fully concentrate on their German language acquisition.

The Australian International College of Language – AICOL – is the oldest English language school in the Gold Coast. Established in 1993 to provide high quality English language study in Australia.

Deciding to study in Australia is an important factor in choosing your language school. If you have decided to study in Australia then the next decision is to choose where you will learn English – different English schools have different strengths and weaknesses.

The Gold Coast offers a safe and friendly environment with perfect year round weather – (winter from 8-20 and summer 20-30). Begin learning English in Australia in a small friend city and graduate to one of the big cities when you commence your further studies.

When learning English at AICOL Gold Coast English School you are invited to additional study in our Self-Access Centre, have an extensive range of optional activities, use of three kitchen areas and various indoor and outdoor eating areas including a balcony area overlooking the beautiful Broadwater Parklands and Aquatic Centre.

Learning English in Australia at AICOL is available to a very wide range of students – children from 6 years through to grand-parents.

AICOL English offers a Gold Coast Summer Camp (July/August) and a Winter Camp (January/February) program for individual students wanting AICOL staff on all activities. If you do not need to have AICOL staff accompany you on your afternoon activities then please see the optional activities program for individual students.

Young children learn English quickly and it is important to ensure your child is enrolled at an English school with courses specially registered for kids AICOL Young Learner Course CRICOS No.032656F.

Many schools accept children for holiday courses but very few have registered courses specifically for young learners (you can check the government web site to see if the young learner course is CRICOS registered). Our young learner course is activity based and offers international classes.
